The physical purity of a seed refers to the physical composition of seed lots. A seed lot is composed of pure seeds, inert matter, weed seeds, and other crop seeds. Higher the content of pure seed the better would be the seed quality.
The main objective of the purity test according to ISTA is to determine the percentage composition by weight of the sample being tested and by interference with the composition of the seed lot and to identify the various species of seeds.
PROTOCOL:
- To perform a seed purity test according to ISTA guidelines, a representative sample is first obtained from the seed lot, with the sample lot size varying depending upon the crop.
- A test sample, typically 100 grams or as specified by ISTA, is then prepared. The sample is purified by removing any foreign material such as soil or plant debris.
- The seeds are sorted into different categories, including crop seeds, weed seeds, and inert matter.
- The weights of pure seeds, inert matter, and other seeds in the sample are then measured.
- The weight of each component is calculated, and the percentages of pure seeds, inert matter, and other seeds are noted.
BENEFITS OF THIS TEST:
- GGAS Hi-Tech Lab, conducts germination tests by following the ISTA standards, which gives and additional stamp of quality to seed sellers.
- Seed testing according to GGAS HI-TECH LAB, gives a precise and trustworthy verification to the farmers that their purchased seeds are devoid of undesirable components, giving them the confidence to predict and control crop results.
- Physically pure seeds have a higher and consistent germination spread that positively correlated the crop yield and quality.
Our seed purity tests are conducted according to ISTA guidelines, which are recognized globally. This compliance not only meets industry standards but also ensures that your seeds are fit for international trade. Adhering to these standards helps you avoid legal issues and build trust with your national and international customers and partners.
